Digital Art Roundup: Motivation

Digital Art Roundup: Motivation - Snaps: A Blog from SnapBox

Happy National popcorn day! This post has nothing to do with popcorn, but I just thought I’d throw that out there. =) Today’s post is all about motivation, or maybe your lack of motivation. January is always so hard for me to get back into the groove of making and crafting because I usually do so much of it during the holidays. BUT, both my mom and my husband have birthdays in January so it forces me to stay on track even when I just want to sit in front of the tv and watch NCIS on Netflix. So, how do I help keep myself motivated? With pretty things, usually pretty printed things.

While I still can’t really walk through my craft room right now, eventually I’m going to clean it up and make it workable again. One thing I’m doing to help motivate me to clean it up is to print pretty art that I can hang once everything has a home. In the end, this pretty art does two things: it makes me motivated to clean my craft room, and it keeps me motivated to continue making! So, today’s Digital Art Roundup is all about motivation and how to keep you on track.

This first print is from Rachel at The Crafted Life and I ADORE it. I actually printed this guy back in November because I knew I wanted it hung in my craft room. I suffer from chronic laziness, so Rachel spoke right to me when she made this print. It’s the perfect kick in the butt that I need to keep going.

Do any of you get stressed out really easy? If you do, this Good Vibes Only print is just for you. With too much stuff to do or things pulling me in separate directions, I tend to get overwhelmed pretty easy. So in my craft room, only good vibes are allowed. This tries to prevent me from freaking out too much and turns my craft room into a quiet and happy place where I can be myself, make things that I enjoy, and have fun during the process.

But there are always deadlines that you have to follow, right? So why not find a calendar that speaks to you? Recently, I’ve been on a coloring kick, so when Damask Love released this printable calendar of ridiculous holidays, I printed it right away on our fine art paper. I’ve been wanting to get into watercoloring more, so I knew that by printing on our paper (which is a thick watercolor paper) it would be the perfect motivation for me to practice a new skill, at least once a month. I LOVE this calendar!

Ok, now are you ready for one of my best-kept secrets regarding digital art? Two words: desktop downloads. There are bloggers and companies out there that create beautiful desktop downloads that would also look amazing printed and hung on your wall. Some of my favorites have come from DesignLoveFest but there are tons out there if you just search desktop download. I love this “work like a boss” one, and the colors make me want to move!

Now this one is something that I struggle with on a daily basis. As the social media manager here at SnapBox, I’m constantly on the web looking at everyone’s latest diy, an amazing piece of abstract art someone created in 10 minutes, or a super complicated weaving that I don’t think I have the patience for, and I always think that I should be able to do it all. I constantly need help reminding myself to be me. I’m great at crochet, and at sewing, and at thinking of new ways for you guys to use your photos, so it’s ok if I’m not a great painter or weaver. Maybe someday I’ll have the time to learn a new skill, but for now I need to be content with who I am and my current skills, because they are awesome and they are what make me, me.

My last piece of advice for you? Print something that’s special to you or that simply makes you happy. I found this print from Clones N Clowns a couple weeks ago and it made me laugh, so I knew I needed to print it. My husband has been on my case lately because I still haven’t seen Die Hard even though it’s a classic, and the fact that Bruce Willis is holding a glue gun in this print just appealed to me on so many levels. So this is my “it makes me happy” print.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you need some pretty motivation on your wall too? What would you print? Let me know in the comments below. And don’t forget today is the last day for our MLK Weekend sale where you can get 25% off and free shipping on every order (the perfect way to print some of your own motivations)!
