Today is our second of four Valentine’s Day DIYs (to see the first one click here) and definitely has much more impact for the person you’re giving it to than the time it takes to make. So, if you’re running out of time or ideas, or you’re just looking for a quick and easy gift, this heart garland is just what you need! Click through for the full tutorial.
While I made one long garland, this is something that can easily be split up. You can just hang one over the doorway, or split it up into three: one for the bathroom mirror, one for above the sink, and one on the fireplace mantle! Ok, you keep thinking of where you’re going to hang it and I’ll jump right into the tutorial.
- 12 pack of 4×4 art photo prints
- 3.5″ circle punch
- heart decals/cutouts or supplies to make your own
- washi tape
- string or twine (I used bakers twine)
To start, punch a circle out of each photo. I found it was easiest to put the photo into the punch upside down and look at where the punch is going to go from the bottom. It helped me to line up the photos that had faces close to the edge of the print.
I didn’t do this next step, but I recommend that you learn from my mistake! With your twine, measure out the length that you’d like it to be. If you’re going to split this up into multiple garlands, cut a piece for each one you’re making.
Lay your twine straight out on a long table or the floor, and space out your photos as you desire. Once you’re happy with the placement, turn everything upside down and tape your photos and your hearts onto your string.
Then, just make little loops on the ends of the twine to hang. Either hammer in a nail, use a command strip with a hook, or just hang it up with washi tape like we did! See, not a ton of time or effort to make something that your boo is really going to love!
