We’re a little more than a week away from Christmas, and I’m sure we’re all trying to scramble together gifts at the last minute. I don’t know about you guys, but I always prefer to give gifts that I’ve made over ones that I purchase, even if it’s just a small ornament that I painted myself or a simple clay bead necklace. Plus, with it being so close to the big day, the stores are going to be PACKED! So with that in mind, I’ve gathered up all of the holiday DIYs we’ve done here on the blog to give you some ideas of what you can make this year instead.
First, I’d like to start with diys that you can incorporate into your own holiday decor. I’ve made a lot of different mobiles/photo displays in the past that would actually be perfect for holiday greeting cards and pictures that you receive in the mail. Of course this first one is something I made and posted about not too long ago, so you might’ve already seen it. But this wire mobile is perfect to blend your holiday cards with your most precious photos from years past.
Much like that wire mobile, this photo chandelier might be able to blend in a little easier with your decor with some spray paint in your choice of color. This guy is still hanging above my desk as we speak, and I love looking at it when I walk into the office every morning!
This metal chain photo garland provides the same use, but is a little more minimal for those of you who don’t want your holiday photos to be the focus of your living room. Just tack the end of a metal chain to your ceiling in the corner, and you’ve got the perfect place that’s out of the way to display those cards.
If you’re looking for something a little more removable, a washi tape display like this is perfect. Just grab some clothespin, string, and washi tape in festive colors and you’ve got yourself the perfect temporary photo display. You can even make it into a tree shape like Haeley did at Design Improvised if you’re looking for something a little more festive.
To round out the holiday decor section of this roundup, I also want to link you back to two diys that I posted about last week and a couple weeks before that. If you’re looking for a festive advent calendar in non traditional colors or some stocking holders that you can customize to your heart’s desire, be sure to check out those two posts.
Now let’s get into gifts that you can make for multiple people. I do different posts on photo stands all the time and am always looking for new ideas in this category. If you’re low on cash or have to make a lot of gifts for a lot of different people, photo stands are something that everyone will love and always have a use for. These wooden block stands are my personal favorite because of their simplicity and their ability to be customized to fit your personal style.
But these clay stands in all of their different shapes are a close second. I think I’m particularly partial to the tall cone ones because I think they look like gold-tipped mountains. I think it would be so cool to add these to a playful winter house scene on your ledge to add something a little more personal.
And these animal photo holders will always be a welcome gift to any furry-creature lovers out there. If you’re looking for something a little more festive, just paint their noses red and dip them in some red glitter to make little Rudolphs!
If you have a little more time on your hands, you can always make something special for one special person in your life. Last week I showed you guys our diy acrylic frame and I still cannot get over how good it looks in person. Seriously, if you’re thinking about making a gift for your significant other or maybe your mom or dad, give this project some thought. It’s just a timeless look that you can’t go wrong with!
I also think this photo tray is a perfect way to give someone a memorable photo without the expectation of the recipient putting it on their wall that night. I also think that you can make this particular gift really fun with a cool graphic photo or some fun architectural photo from your city!
Along the same lines is this jewelry tray, although I think I like this one more because I’m partial to the florals. If someone that you know recently got married, I think this gift would be beautiful with a shot of her wedding bouquet.
Another, more abstract, way to give a photo gift this year would be with this wooden poster frame. This is a great gift for someone who doesn’t really like gallery walls because it can stand on its own so well. The only thing I would change on these guys is to add more leather tassels!
Our photo memory box is a more sentimental option if you need a gift for your boo or one of your parents. I love the idea of adding in the most memorable moments from that year and making a gift like this an annual thing. Then you get a customized photo box for every year.
These last two diys are ones that I’m obsessed with and actually am waiting for the perfect person to gift them to. Our woven frame and our embroidery hoop frames hold a special place in my heart. I think these are so unexpected and playful, but can also be very refined depending on the colors you pick and how you display them. I especially love the woven frame because you can switch out the photo once you get tired of the one that’s in there.
So there you have it! All of our past diys that are perfect gifts for everyone on your list this year. I’m curious. Which one is your favorite?
